Blue House
Official residence of the president is called “The Blue House”.The symbol of the Blue House, which is at the center of Korean politics, is the blue tiles. The first thing that catches your eye when you arrive at the Blue House is also the blue tiles of the main building. The blue tiles and the smooth roof are in beautiful harmony with Mt. Bugaksan(Mt.Bukak) behind it.
Gyeongbokgung(Palace)
Gyeonbokgung Palace is a palace erected during the reign of king Taejo, founder of the Joseon Dynasty(1392-1910) which was the final kingdom in Korea, but it was destroyed in the Japanese invasion of 1592. It was reconstructed in 1868. It has 4 gates including the southern main gate, Gwanghwamum.
National Folk Museum
The National Folk Museum is located on the compound of Gyeongbok palace. It shows you the traditional life of both the ordinary people and aristocracy. It has exhibits from all parts of Korea. There ae displays of traditional farming methods, hunting, weaving, cooking and other house keeping chores.
Jogye Temple
Jogyesa Temple leads to the Zen Buddhism in Korea. This temple does not give off the solemn and traditional feelings of the other temples located in the deep mountains. But it has some advantages compared to the other temples because the transportation is very convenient and this temple is well connected to the surrounding city area.
Changdeok-gung (Palace)
The best preserved of the five palaces of the Joseon Dyansty, the compound has been designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Originally an auxiliary palace, but since Songjon(1470-1494), it became virtually the main palace as kings came to live there.

I very much enjoyed the Number 8 all day tour which cost 76,000 won (around AUD 80). It went to Jogyesa Buddhist temple where Buddha’s Birthday lanterns were still up as well as special white lanterns in memory of the ferry disaster victims. Then we went to The National Folk Museum which is wonderful. I could have spent half a day there but we only had about 40 minutes. Then to Gyeongbok Palace as it was a Monday. This was also most interesting. We saw the changing of the guard which is very colourful. A visit to the National Ginseng Centre followed which to my mind is just about selling you ginseng products. However it was interesting to see 1 to 6 year old ginseng. Some looks decidedly female and some decidedly female, although of course it has no gender. Lunch was included at a Korean restaurant. Thankfully not all very spicey. We then had an hour in Insadong Antique Sop Alley, but I mustn’t have gone in the right areas as I didn’t see much in the way of antiques. Next was the Amethyst Centre that, like the Ginseng place, is just a push to sell. The Hanok Village was very interesting and well worth a visit. Last of all was Namdaemum market which is very busy with lots of alleys. Some shops are just wholesale but most appear retail. Our guide, Michelle ( her English name) was excellent and most knowledgeable. Her English is very good indeed. The only reason I haven’t given 5 star rating is because if having to go to Ginseng and Amethyst places.
If you are into style, this town rocks – the department stores will set you back some, and you’ll fit in with the average local as you shop around. I did not see much American style hipster-esque action going on, but Korean’s certainly have their own great scene.
If you do the Namdaemun market, be sure to enter into the interior stores as well. There are whole floors of themes that are fun to walk around in. Dozens of faux American-looking knickknack shops (Route 66 mock ups for example) Mountains of dried and real flowers.
I found it convenient to have a small subway map card handy during my visit.
One thing about personal space. You and your bags will be bumped by people all the time , it’s not personal. This bugs some people tremendously. I know one guy who worked here for a year and had to move because of that -it bothered him that much. Quite often someone has lit up a cigarrette right next to me at a café or restaurant, and I’m like, seriously?!? This city has not got the memo. And, I love this place anyway. I’ve been here on seven or eight visits a week at a time.
Michelle, our tour guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable. She went out of her way to give us information and share her experiences. I would have liked longer in the museum – particularly to get to all the sections – 20 minutes isn’t nearly long enough to do even one gallery justice. Maybe instead of trying to do 2 markets, you just do 1. My recommendation is Insadong because the items are more culturally significant for tourists. I really enjoyed taking part in the Emergency Drill. Watching a city shut down at 2:00pm for 15 minutes was amazing and it was fascinating to have the processed explained. Overall – a worthwhile tour and worth doing in this format if you’re only in Seoul for a short while.
My friend and I would like to sincerely convey our utmost appreciation to our personal tour guide, Ms. Jessie. She had done a fantastic job in captivating us with so much vivid info during our time-limited mini tour. Her knowledge, friendliness and professionalism made our visit to Seoul more enjoyable. Through her narration and visiting specified areas of the tour, it enhanced our education and made us appreciate more this unique Asian culture. Both my friend and I will recommend this tour to our relatives, friends and others who plan to visit Korea in the future. Please be certain to bring both a bottle of water and camera plus wear good walking shoes. We also hope to have her as our guide again whenever we return especially with our families.
My husband and I did a city tour with “This is Korea “and were very impressed with their service. We only had a day in Seoul and wanted to maximize our time. The TS was very accommodating and was willing to change our itinerary to our needs. He took professional pictures of all the places we went with no extra charge. We highly recommend this company to anyone that wants to see the best of Seoul. Thank you very much to our TS for the wonderful memories! Will be back!
It was so much fun and our tour guides Angie and Rebecca are both very informative
We booked a trip to Mt Sorak using Seoul City Tour, HeeWon was the assigned tour guide. This is a whole day tour as it takes a 3 hours drive from Seoul to Mt Sorak. This tour was enjoyable relax and HeeWon was good in providing information on the tour. Mt Sorak was beautiful, a short walk led to the cable car ride up to the mountains with a magnificent and rugged views of the Mt Sorak. After the visiting Mt Sorak, we made a stop to Daepo port which is also a fish market, that was interesting too.
We would recommend this one day tour!
Visited November 2014
Had a great tour on one of my day in Seoul. Visited Jogyesa, Gyeongbukgong, National Folk Museum and last stop at Insadong. This is definitely nice trip for traveller who love historical stuffs.
Our guide is Saena and she is really awesome! She is energetic, cheerful and knowledgeable. She shared with us about history of and traditional culture of South Korea to let us have better understadning about this country. She made the tour becoming fun and enjoyable. This is really a great experience. Strongly recommendation!
What a great tour “Full day tour #8″ We were a group of 9 and had lots of space in our little bus. Our driver was good and our guide Sunny Lee was excellent. It all starts with a telephone number with an operator that speaks English plus they pick you up at your hotel and only gets better after that. Sunny was able to give us just enough history, places to visit and funny stories to make sure we knew what to do next in our precious time in Seoul.
A big thank you–Merci from the group of proud Canadians
I am considering this tour … Just wondering how long it took. I know its a full day but what time did it actually end? I too am coming from Canada. Thank you.
