As early as 1979, Gyeongju was selected by UNESCO to be one the ten ancient historic cities of the world. A visit to the many ruins and museum there gives the tourist some idea of the city’s magnificent scale, height of cultural attainment and superiority in art and learning over one thousand years ago.
