Seoul becomes winter wonderland
Early in the morning on December 11, an overnight snow shower turns Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bugaksan Mountain into a striking snowscape. (Photo: Jeon Han) Waking up on the morning of December 11, Seoulites arose to find their city covered with an overnight snowfall. With thick layers of snow on the ground for the first time this winter, Seoul has changed into its snow white clothes. Snowflakes were heaped on rooftops and trees everywhere, glittering in the morning sun.
Early in the morning at Gyeongbokgung Palace, so early that the snow remained untrodden, people were spotted snapping pictures here and there, capturing the stunning snow-covered palace and saving the images into their winter memory banks.
As expected, slippery roads hampered morning commuters who walked in short penguin-like steps so as to not lose their balance on the icy paths and whose snow-clad vehicles crept along at a snail’s pace. Some cars were clearly seen slipping downward while trying to drive up a hill.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), overnight snow accumulation across Seoul reached 3.3 centimeters.
