Deoksugung Palace was originally the place of Prince Wolsan, the borother of King Seongjong. in 1592, all palace were burned so that the palce had been used since 1593.In 1608, King Gwanghaegun took over the throne in this palce and renamed it Gyeongungung in 1611. The king had stayed here until He moved to Changdeokgung Palace in 1615.After Emperor Gojong who took regfuge in the Russian Legation returned to this palace 1897, Deoksugung started to be the residence of the King again.
